Permissions and Comments Policy
Because I work very hard to make sure M.I.Y. is as awesome as it can be, I have a list of demands. Err, guidelines. I have tried to keep them as reader friendly as possible so that you will actually read them, not just look at them and say “Blah, Blah, Blah” as you roll your eyes. It’s okay. We all do it.
Without my permission, you MAY do the following at any time:
Link back to my site. I would be truly flattered. And if you take the time to let me know about it, we will certainly be Best Internet Friends Forever (BIFFS).
Quote a portion of my content if and only if you link back to the original Make It Yours post. (I’m not going to give you a word limit here, just not an entire post because Google gets cranky about duplicates, can’t figure out who the original host is, and could take it out on me. I really don’t want to deal with that. I want to spend my time sharing fabulous recipes and cute crafts with you.)
Print out content for distribution in a non-commercial publication (say, for a church group or at a crafting club meeting) as long as the following copyright notice is included: “©Make It Yours 2016. All rights reserved. Originally published at www.makeityourswithmelissa.com.” Again, if you drop me an email to let me know, it would just make my day.
With my permission, which you MUST obtain by contacting me directly, you may or may not do the following (I’ll let ya know):
- Use content from M.I.Y. to advertise your own product or attempt to sell or license printed or digital versions of my content.
- Alter, transform, or build upon said content. That would be stealing. And wrong.
- Use any graphics located on www.makeityourswithmelissa.com. That logo? I love it. I created it. I agonized over the size, the text, the graphic element, the colors, all of it. Ditto for the site header. These not so good photos? I love them too. Although, not for the same reason. I spent more time than I care to admit editing them. I think you catch my drift.
- Translate content from M.I.Y. to another language. Simply because I would want to verify it first.
There. That wasn’t so bad, was it?
Because a strong community is vital to the success of Make It Yours, please keep the following in mind when commenting:
Comments should always be respectful and kind. It’s okay to disagree or ask questions for clarification, just make sure you are doing so with consideration to the person who will be reading your comment. Let’s build each other up and help each other out. Life is hard. And short. Let’s not spend it name calling or belittling others.
Furthermore, it really should go without saying, but hateful words of any kind are just not okay. They will be deleted immediately. I’m sure this won’t be a problem with the classy folks who will be visiting here, though.
Comments should be on topic. Kind of a no-brainer, right? I love when people comment in a conversational way that lets me get to know a little about them. What I don’t love is reading a comment that is so far out in left field I have to scroll up to see if I am still on the same page.
No profanity for profanity’s sake. Am I gonna delete a comment with a curse word if it conveys emotion, is authentic, and respectful? Hell no! (See what I did there?) But I’m not okay with a slew of pointless profane words thrown together in a lame attempt to offend someone or get attention. Again, I don’t anticipate this being a problem with such a superior group of readers.
The only thing I hate more than waking up early is spam. Blatant spam will be promptly deleted, for all of our sakes.
