It Seems I Have Created a Website

If you are here I assume you are interested in crafts, baking, cooking, and the like.  Let’s just go ahead and try to focus on those and overlook the imperfections around here.  I'm still earning my Techie Badge.

You may be wondering how and why M. I. Y. came to be. It all began with a sweet little baby  in 2008.

My first blog was a private little blog on Blogger that I started when my oldest, Katherine, was just a little roley-poley baby. I wanted a way to remember all the cute little milestones until I had time to “properly” record them in her baby book. And, more importantly, I wanted a way to share pictures with my out-of-state-in-laws without having to email every.single.picture. After my second child, Ethan, was born I was inspired by a former student’s mom and I started another little Blogger blog titled ‘My favorites, My Way.” For a while I had a ton of fun documenting all the recipes I loved and how I changed them to make them perfect for me.

Then, life got crazy.

I started watching my sweet little niece. We moved. I taught preschool out of my home. I got pregnant with our third child, Madeleine. My nephew was born. And I started watching him. Slowly but surely my ability and desire to post slipped away from me. It may or may not have had something to do with not remembering which email address was attached to which blog and forgetting passwords every time I logged in.

I am not the most tech savvy person on the block.

But I am learning. Two weeks ago I had no idea what a spacer block was, how to code, or that there is a difference between font and typeface. And look at me now, friends! I built a website (WITHOUT whining for my husband to help me! Okay, I used a template, but still.) I customized the color palette, typefaces and fonts, DESIGNED MY VERY OWN LOGO, learned how to watermark photos, installed share buttons, linked accounts; the list goes on and on!

But no matter how much I impress myself, that’s not why you’re here. You're here for the crafts and recipes! And I am bursting at the seams to share them with you! I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed blogging. You should see my spreadsheet of planned posts. So much great stuff!

So, here are a few things you can expect from this blog:

No rants or blogging about blogging. Damn! Already breaking my own rules. But just this once!

Even though I love my family dearly, this blog is not about them. Surely they will be mentioned. They are the most important people in my life and quite often the focus of my projects and meals. But this blog is about inspiring you and sharing experiences with projects and recipe favs.

I plan to post a tutorial or recipe every other week, at least for the time being. I would love to get to a point where I can post once a week, but it’s just not realistic while I am learning about this whole running a website thing. Even though my older two are in school all day, I have my youngest at home as well as my niece and nephew. They keep me pretty busy. I am basically a Naptime Warrior, so my time is limited.

Eventually, hopefully not too far down the road, I plan to make video tutorials (for that I WILL enlist the help of my husband).

I realize the term “budget friendly” is relative so I will attempt to break down the cost of each project.

So let’s do this!

I hope you leave feeling inspired. But don't stay away too long... the first craft tutorial is already in the works!
